MADPL 15-16 Week 2 Nu Flava Home

New venue secured tonight was our first home game at the Big Lock so it was a new experience for us as well as a new experience for Nu Flava our opponents. They are a new team to the league and no familiar faces so they were completely an unknown challenge.

John was our opening player and after breaking of and nominating he was left with a table any of our players would have relished. It looked difficult to lose the frame from the position he was in but a couple of nervy visits and it didn’t look quite as tasty but some steady pots kept him easily in the frame while his oponent played a few poor shots giving the impression John had time but then four pots from nowhere and their man was on the black and John was staring down the barrel of his first defeat of the season. Luckily for John his opponent cut the black into middle and then watched the white sail in to the corner bag 1 – 0

Dave’s first frame of the new season started of steadily with a pots and couple of safety shos to keep his opponent off potting and then after moving a couple of balls into better positions proceeded to finish the frame with a 6 ball clearance worthy of congratulations from everyone in the room 2 – 0

Having been humbled last week Sam required a good frame tonight and broke off potting a yellow but nominated reds and after three steady pots the table was opening up for him. Still not a gimme it looked like a possible eight ball break was on if he was accurate with his positional play the most difficuly was from his final red to black but even that was made to look easy 3 – 0 (8 Ball Break)

At 3 – 0 Rob played some nervous pool when the scoreline maybe should have allowed him to play more freely, he also (in my oppinion) made a couple of mistakes on shot selection when he had easier pots to remain on the table and make the next shot easier by gaining better position. That said he kept up the pressure on his opponent by potting his balls and a lucky snooker helped massively too. In the end he was left a three ball clearance and was up to the task 4 – 0

PJ worked hard to keep possibly their best player of any chance at potting after failing to pot off the break left him chasing the game and it worked because eventually frustration from their player presented PJ with the chance he needed but a strange miss to middle bag saw that chance slip. It didn’t matter though because a snatch at potting the black saw PJ back at the table to finish the job 5 – 0

Steve had to work hard at the next frame too when all balls seemed to come to rest on the side cushion but with patience and some good pots and moves he was able to win the frame reletively easily 6 – 0

The pressure now was to not be the only loser so when I started snatching at a couple of attempted pots I heard Mike encourage me to calm down which I did and then the game was a lot easier 7 – 0

Mike on last was as steady as a rock in the last frame and never looked in trouble finishing the white wash 8 – 0

Nu Flava are not a bad side but if they hadn’t had bad luck tonight they would have had no luck at all, and could easily have been 3 – 1 up instead of 4 – 0 down at the midway point but at 4 – 0 even they were resigned to their fate and wanted out asap
