MADPL 15-16 Week 4 Top House Home

New landlord meant no Dave Preston laughing and joking when the Top House visited which is a shame because we all loved Dave’s horseplay and frivolity which would lighten up any room so they were a little unknown with unfamiliar faces amongst them when they arrived

As captain I decided I would open this evening and although I was able to win the frame I would not consider this one of my better performances? I am still struggling to shine on our new home table which is pretty good even though its hampered in a couple of area’s the playing surface and pockets are very good.

assdragDave on next commented on me apparently “dragging the arse” out of my frame but he soon wished he’d kept his comment to himself when after 15 minutes of tactical ineptitude the frame was still nowhere near completion. Dave had 3 yellows left and decided to put them all around the red covering a baulk corner pocket, which against a lot of players would have been a frame losing situation but it became apparent that their player was more inepter and after 20 minutes of torture for everyone and a refereeing error that should have given Dave two further visits and complete control of the table, that little winning smile appeared on Dave’s face as his opponent opened up the frame and allowed him to clear three yellows and the black with aplomb 2 – 0 “Cough! Cough!”

PJ on next broke and failed to pot which his opponent made the best of putting PJ under pressure with some assured potting but he wasn’t to be out gunned potting well himself and once he had gained control of the frame it was only a matter of time before he got the chance to finish. One of in not thee best potter on our team the finish was not easy and no-one else would have struck any of the next 4 shots with as much power as PJ did but all were accurate and he made a tricky finish look very easy 3 – 0

After hearing how poorly he played on Monday I did not think Mike would want to carry that sort of form into tonights frame but when put under pressure to stay in a frame that could easily have been over in one visit a usually steady Mike Coe looked lost for what could be done to save the frame but I feel that was more to do with his opponent than anything else leaving Mike really nowhere to hide 3 – 1

Sam next broke potted nominated then missed allowing another of their players to gain confidence in a frame we could have put to bed earlier unfortunately 4 – 1

Rob looked confident in the next frame and after potting 5 steadily he ran a little out of position and possibly chose the wrong shot to recover with, was in control until another refereeing error turned the frame on its head. The ref called the visit over with their players yellow teetering on the edge of the corner pocket and Rob approached the table as his opponent left, ready to take his shot the yellow dropped and the ref called their man back to the table (Completely incorrect call?) He then covered the main pocket Rob’s reds were around and the frame was lost 4 – 2

Dave was chosen first shittest and made sure that there was no repeat of earlier winning the next frame well and looking like we know he can play 5 – 2

Imagine my dismay at being chosen as one of this weeks shittest after an alright win earlier in the evening, my disappointment troubled me throughout the last frame and two “nothing shots” (?) left their man an easy task to clear up 2 reds and the black to compound my frustrations 5 – 3

A win is a win as they say and this one was against a good side who will upset a few this season. We may play better and lose but apart from a dropped point last week we couldn’t do much more, well done boys and a rare road trip next week before we’re back in residency at the Big Lock
